*Every vote counts, as the key players hoping to be elected the next President of Nigeria, are household names such as Peter Obi, Bola Tinubu, and Atiku Abubarkar. One of these three, out of 18 candidates, looks more poised to win the presidency this Saturday 25 February. It is hoped that the election will run smoothly in a nation with a population of 201 million. The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections all over Nigeria are this Saturday as well.
On the ticket of the Labour Party, Peter Obi who is 61 years old is popular with young Nigerians under age 25. He was the former Governor of Anambra State in Eastern Nigeria. Since he declared his intention to run, he has been campaigning to be Nigeria’s next president together with his chosen Vice-presidential candidate. Obi’s speeches have been hailed as a breath of fresh air in Nigeria’s politics.
Bola Tinubu who is 70 years old, was Governor of Lagos state, south of Nigeria, and has served in various capacities. He is the candidate for the All-Progressive Party APP and is running to be Nigeria’s next president. Tinubu is on the ticket of the All- Progressives Congress, running to be Nigeria’s next president after being nominated.
Atiku Abubakar served as Vice-president of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007 during the presidency of Olusegun Obasanjo. The highest office in the land has eluded him and so he is trying again at 76. Abubakar began his presidential campaign in 2018 and he secured the party nomination of the People’s Democratic party PDP.
OUR ROOTS salutes a bold Church minister – Prayers for a Nation
Churches have had roles to play during Nigerian elections. congregations are not to be influenced by Ministers as to who to vote for but are encouraged to be part of the election process by registering to vote and to vote. Ministers last year encouraged their congregation to register to vote before closing dates and since then explained the importance to vote as Nigeria decides this Saturday 25th February. Nigerians are the decision-makers as to who they want as their next president and vice president. Last Sunday this minister led his Church congregation during service, to pray that the next elected president would take Nigeria forward and prayed for the outgoing President to use his good office to ensure a smooth election process, free and fair. A bold unbiased minister is passionate about good Nigerian leadership. Minister Paul Adefarasin, Senior Pastor of House on the Rock church was Forbes Most Influential Personality Of The Year 2021.
